Workshop to introduce the 10th “Pont Maquette” contest in 2020

On January 18th, 2021 at the meeting room 13 – H2, the Board of Management and Training of Excellent Engineers, National University of Civil Engineering (PFIEV) organized the workshop “Bridge Model Innovation Contest – Concours Pont Maquette” for the 10th in 2020.

Attending this workshop, there are Dr. Cu Viet Hung, Deputy Dean of The Faculty of Bridge and Road – University of Civil Engineering; Mr. Tran Tien Dung – Head of Bridge Department – International Consulting Center – Transport Engineeering Design Inc. – JSC (TEDI), Dr. Tong Ngoc Tu – Head of Board of Management and Training of Excellent Engineers; MA. Nguyen Thi Truc Quynh – Deputy Head of Board of Management and Training of Excellent Engineers (PFIEV); Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Hung Cuong – Senior Lecturer in Steel Structure –  Faculty of Civil and Industrial Construction Engineering; Dr. Vu Ngoc Tru – Head of Transportation Infrastructure major (IT), PFIEV teachers and students.

Dr. Tong Ngoc Tu opened the ceremony and introduced the contest “Bridge Model Innovation Contest – Concours Pont Maquette” 2020, a useful and interesting playground, stimulating the learning and research to build bridge models that can be get to the high load capacity. This contest has also been held for more than 10 years.

The bridge is a very special project, helping to connect traffic through complex terrain such as rivers, ponds, streams or urban viaduct works, which are both technical and artistic. It is no coincidence that in French they use the word “Ouvrages d’Art” to name urban structures such as the Opera House, the Eiffel Tower, the Palace … including bridge works. That is, they consider the bridge as an architectural work, a masterpiece of urban art, not merely a bridge of traffic engineering. Technically demanding and artistically demanding bridges are increasing, we can see through the perspective of bridges over the Red River. Therefore, the bridge deserves to be selected for the Bridge Model Innovation Contest that is both technical and artistic.

Over nine times, the Bridge Model Innovation Contest has really become a very useful playground for PFIEV students, where they can unleash their creativity, practice their thinking abilities and promote bold ideas among students.

Dr. Tong Ngoc Tu speaks at the workshop

In order to bring an overview of the world’s types of bridges and current bridge design trends, Dr. Cu Viet Hung – Deputy Dean of The Faculty of Bridges and Roads has brought students useful knowledge.

Dr. Cu Viet Hung presented his presentation at the seminar

Mr. Tran Tien Dung – Head of Bridge Department – International Consulting Center – Transport Engineeering Design Inc. – JSC (TEDI) gave to the students an overview of the large span bridge design, pattern and calculation of cable-stayed bridges in Vietnam and around the world.

Mr. Tran Tien Dung presented at the workshop

Prof. Dr. Bui Hung Cuong introduced the Bridge Model Innovation Contest over the years with many impressive and interesting images, accompanied by the results of loading weight each type of bridge model over the years, analyzing materials, the destroyed location of bridge models clearly and detail. From there, the students will have an overview to build this year’s bridge model for their Team to achieve the highest load testing efficiency.

Alumni Ly Van Hung – class 55 IU (PFIEV), he was also a member of the Bridge Model Innovation Contest Team won the second prize in 2014 to attend the workshop. He shares his experience in building bridge models, how to choose carton covers and link this material to build a bridge model with high load capacity is very important.
